I worked as a car salesman for a season of The Sopranos and would always reference the home as the first major purchase for a family, with the auto being second. I don’t know if it made any difference. The person buying it is like saying to themselves, “No way, didn’t know that. But I do know you’re making it much more painful when you point out the obvious.”
And speaking of the obvious, it’s obvious how much easier shopping for a home can be. Back in the day, people would go house hunting driving through neighborhoods with their copy of the Saturday newspaper, looking to see if the house on the inside was as lovely as on the outside. For those who don’t have a clue, you had NO CLUE what the place looked like on the inside. You had a picture of the outside, usually on a 45-degree angle, and then were told it’s a “NICE HOME!” with three beds, two baths, and a block from the school. And every Saturday, the newspaper would have a section devoted to it for people to cruise around and prospect.
Today, if you drive by a house with a FOR SALE sign, you pull over and check out every square inch of it on your phone.
