Change To Live Longer and Happier

Now that I have been back from my much needed vacation, I realized I needed to make some changes for the sake of my business and my happiness. We only get one chance, so I am no longer living to work, I am working less to live better. At least I want it to feel that way!

Now that I have been back from my much needed vacation, I realized I needed to make some changes for the sake of my business and my happiness. We only get one chance, so I am no longer living to work, I am working less to live better. At least I want it to feel that way!

Believe me, I still work many hours to keep my many clients happy and the cash flowing, but I am learning how to "shut it down" when needed. Leaving my phone in my golf bag and not checking email while trying to "check out" during a round for example. Much easier said then done due to my OCD personality of course. But I am up for the challenge and I am doing it.

I normally like to reply to every single design work RFP I get, but not any more. I am taking my time, work load and state of mind into consideration and not to mention whether or not I am up for the challenge again, that may or may not arise from past experiences.

While traveling through Dublin, Ireland for 6 days, playing the most amazing golf courses, and playing fairly poor golf, it made me reaslize how tiny and stressful my world is and how big the world we live in actually is and can be. Having my phone 100% dead for 24 hours because I could not find an adaptor to charge my phone made my realize being disconnected is a good thing. I think life before cell phones and Facebook was much better in some ways, even though there are many benefits to it. But it was nice not having the feeling or actual access or need to check in on what my "friends" are eating or wearing or doing every minute of their day or to check my email every hour of the day.

Since getting back, I have been limiting my time on Facebook, trying to maintain my business page more then my personal page. Yes, I will LIKE some things here and there, post an occasional Seindfeld quote, but cuting back seems to be a benefit. I get more work done during the day and don't find myself endlessly scrolling my news feed which is full of shit anyway.

I can honesly say and Facebook-less life might be coming sooner then I think. But again, much easier said then done.

All am trying to do is make simple changes to live longer and to live happier.
