3-D Printing - What Is The Buzz All About

Staples has now started selling 3-D printers. Interesting. I am having a hard time figuring out the benefits of a 3-D printer in the first place. After reading this article I can certainly see the potential, but why would I need or want a 3-D Printer for my home?

Staples has now started selling 3-D printers. Interesting. I am having a hard time figuring out the benefits of a 3-D printer in the first place. After reading this article I can certainly see the potential but why would I need or want a 3-D Printer for my home? I can see why product designers might need one to create prototypes of a shoe design or engine part, but why else?

Do I want to print a 3-D toy? No.

Do I want to print a 3-D Gun? HELL NO (saw this on a CSI episode), no one should!

Do I want to print 3-D food? Not really.

I do find this interesting, a little snippet from the article:

"While many 3-D printer owners may be using the devices to prototype inventions or simply have fun making plastic toys, other industries are tapping into the printers' potential. Chefs are using the printers to create intricately designed food. Doctors are even experimenting with advanced versions of the machines to make artificial organs and prosthetic limbs."

What are your thoughts?
